Mervyn Foo
Head Coach / KSK Canada President
I have always been a lion dance enthusiast since I was young. What ignited my interest was how the sport evolved into a modern style where we can tell stories through life-like performances. I wanted to share my passion for lion dance with my daughters; and as their interest and involvement grew too, I became more deeply involved by starting a team, Edmonton KSK Dragon and Lion Dance Troupe.
After seeing the lion dance community in Malaysia, it was important to me that the children in Canada could also experience the camaraderie, friendships and everything set out in the KSK virtues. My end goal is to promote and preserve lion dance and train the younger generation to become future leaders that will carry on this important cultural sport!
Carly Chiew
Team Leader / Assistant Coach
When I was young, I remember hearing the loud instruments ringing in my ears as the colourful lions were brought to life through an exciting performance. Growing up in the community, lion dance has become an important part of my life and has shaped who I am today. It’s not only a cultural art or sport to me, but it has taught me so much about teamwork. My team has become my family. We grow together, we learn together, and we continue to share the sport together. As the Team Leader, my goal is to share this beautiful sport with everyone, while also mentoring (both in lion dance and life) and cherishing each and every team member who makes up Edmonton KSK Canada!
